Dell Mapback Books

Dell Mapback Books

In the 1940's and 1950's Dell books produced a series of paperbacks that had stunning covers and cool maps on the back. Most of the Mapbacks were mysteries but they also did some science fiction including H G Wells. I picked up a few at the flea market today and I love 'em.

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

Dan, where in Los Angeles do you go usually for these great finds? You must have a great nose for this stuff because I can never find stuff like this.

I have always like the Dell Mapbacks. The maps are a great illustration and tie into the book.

Yeah, anyone with access to the Rose Bowl could find anything they want. I was doing heavy flea marketing as early as 1984 and I'll tell you, outside of California, Chicago, and other major cities the pickings are very slim. LA was definitely the king of this stuff due to the types of people who lived there (show business meets blue collar aerospace). Most of my friends who did flea markets in LA in the late 70s know exactly how lucky they were. They didn't even have flea markets like that in NY.
