I love how 'hip' the kids got in the 1972 packaging - love that cool vest and Davy Jones-like haircut!

Thanks for your excellent site - it's my daily break from the office noise.

ps: these boxes make me think of the Wacky Packages version: "Awful Bits"

I have always loved that "Phil Silvers" Loveable Truly. Shoulda stuck with him.

That first Post-Man was Jack E. Leonard. The Post cereal people didn't care for him- demanded a character that was "truly loveable". You can guess the rest.

"Loveable Truly", in case many of you didn't know, also appeared as a continuing character in his own right on "LINUS THE LIONHEARTED" (1964-'66, '67-'69 repeats) while plastered on the "Alpha-Bits" boxes of the time....and why not? General Foods [Post cereals] sponsored the show, and made sure their cereal characters had a weekly showcase!

Thank you, anonymous! Can't believe how many times Fat Jack Leonard gets mistaken for Silvers...I'm positive he's who MAD magazine's Uncle Nutzy was modeled on.
