I was digging around in some boxes this weekend and ran accross this art. The first 3 piece were for Kellogg's cereals. The owl character was never used but Kellogg's used the same sort of idea with Newton the Owl on Cocoa Hoots in the 1970's. The final 3 pieces are from Post cereal and show some of the artists thinking about names and animals for a numbers cereal similiar to Alpha-bits. It is very cool to see the artist thinking about all the possibilities.

I have probably 30-40 more drawings and concepts for that cereal - it acts as a little time warp into the mind of a commercial artist/creator in 1963
What about Digits. Or Dig-Its!
it's interesting to note how similar the elephant sketch looks like Disney's Dumbo. Especially when you see the very minor adjustments they made that keep the final product from looking at all like Dumbo. Very clever.
thats funny I had thought about the Dumbo similiarities myself after I had looked at it next to the box - they did tone it down in the final art.
They did try Digits but not Dig-its!

I really like these pencil drawings. Did you do these? I have come concept cells of Snap, Crackle and Pop, Also Digem, Tucan Sam, Tony Tiger Jr and 2 scoops Raisin Brand Sun. These are original cells, back painted with opaque gauche. Did you do these for Leo Burnett?
