A couple more paintings that are finished (or at least pretty close). Part of the grocery store project. The Dairy Aisle painting was reworked 3 times and in the end I am pretty happy with it. Milk Ahoy is going to get a frame which I think will finish it nicely. Such fun.

1969 Post Honeycomb Kid artwork
Here we have the original line artwork for the front of the 1969 Honeycomb box. The art was done on vellum and then glued to artboard, over the years the glue has turned brown. This was probably the final box with the Honeycomb Kid. Offered in the box as a premium were scale models of the 1969 Mercury cars, 4 different models in 6 colors.

Yogi Bear Happy Hat
I just love this box back. I would love ot find a picture of a kid wearing his Yogi Bear hat. It really makes me think about what a wonderful marriage it was between cartoons and cereal boxes in the 1960's. The perfect and graphic flat surface of a cereal box was a real equivalent to the flat cartoon image from the TV screen. The scales were similiar but the cereal box was a great static reminder of what had been seen on the TV. And in the case of this hat and other cut outs, the kid would be drawn into the cartoon world. Quite a bit different from the immersive media world we exsist in today. That is not to say it was better back then, just very different.

Inspiration for New Paintings
I just got this wonderful bag from Patrick (check out his Disneyland Photo blog). I have to say it blew me away. Right now I am working on a series of paintings based on supermarket imagery and this graphic just captured the feel I am trying to get across. Inspiring yet humbilng too.

Scrappy Candy Wrappers
These little candy wrappers are some of the earliest food packaging to feature a cartoon character back in the 1930's. Mickey Mouse would go on to be the king of 30's marketing but thse little wrappers are a nice little remnent of the battle for cartoon supremacy that went on then. Each little wrapper had a cartoon on the back which I am sure kids loved collecting (although it would have been hard to find all 100+ different).

Funny Face
I just got this great Funny Face pack from someone who saw my collection online. It is such a cool pack because it was given away free with a package of Scott Cups in about 1966. The whole package is just a jumble of great printed typefaces, all kind of doing their own thing. That is my kind of design.
