I just ran across these two photos while putting away some postcards I had bought this weekend. It got me thinking about all the things that went on in the parking lots of shopping centers in the past like pony rides. These photos are from 1967 and really transport be back to my childhood. I remember all the hours spent looking at the toys and junk and the Gilbert Five and Dime and going to the Rancho market to buy comics for 20 cents.
They sure had great signage back in those days
ReplyDeleteForgive me if I've misunderstood, but... is that you riding the pony in the photographs? If so, where is this neat old (now) shopping center? FUN! I was snapped taking a similar pony ride when I was about 2 or 3 (1971-72), so we know that it's definitely something that was part of a different timem, huh? :-)

the pics are not me so I have no idea where the shopping center is...
ReplyDeleteAh, the 5 and dime! I loved those older bits of the 70s shopping centers. I particularly liked the coin op rides outside the Alpha Beta on 17th. And the Gilberts, like a Newberries, had a particular smell. My mother said it smelled the same way a 5 and dime store smelled when she was a kid in the early 1940s.
