I have been doing a series of drawings on old newspaper classified ads. I do them in ink and then watercolors. You cant really sketch out the drawing, you just have to go with it. Mostly I have been just doing my characters but I thinking of ways to expand the project. Also I have some of them for sale in my Etsy store.
As the Owner of the Happy Clouds #2 pictured above, let me assure one and all of the necessity of purchasement.
ReplyDeleteMr. Toast & Brick are looking quite nice in relationship to their surrounding space & transparency, too....
i know i'm biased because i have one of your newsprint drawing, but i love them! if it's at all possible, they are more charming in real life than they are in photos.
ReplyDeleteI'll second xradiographer's statement about the surrounding space - I especially like the bold ad "Again" in the Drunked Carrot piece.
ReplyDeleteReally great stuff. One day I'll own something... I'm just not sure which one(s).
Have you considered refrigerator magnets of your food-based characters? I don't mean overly-crass cheapo stuff, but something along the lines of handmade limited editions.
I'd be all over those to tide me over until I could decide on which painting I want.
Chris
i have never done magnets - I have buttons which are quite popular. I am thinking about doing a wallet and a few new t shirts are in the works. Also working on a few different new book ideas and building that 20' Mr Toast robot.....
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college, I used to draw cartoon characters and then cut them out and paste them onto pages from an old Thomas Bros mapbook. It was fun to pick a page that had streets that went the same direction as the line of action in the character.
ReplyDeleteSee ya

speaking of negative space....
