Monkeyhouse Toys
I just dropped off some Mr Toast dolls and comics at Monkeyhouse Toys in Silverlake. Mayra runs an incredible store packed with toys, books, designer vinyl, art and all sorts of goodies. Also starting on Dec. 2nd, they are having a Doll and Plush exhibition.
In other plush news, I have been asked to be part of PLUSH WEEK 2: Eclectic Boogaloo at Gallery 1988 right here in Los Angeles. The show is in January and I have to get right ot work on some stuff to show. Also I think Mr Toast might be making an appearance at the opening More info as the show gets closer.
I Love Harvey Comics
Actually I love Harvey Comics covers from the 1960's. They are all about character and gag. Each character has their trait which is dealt with in a humorous fashion each month. What funny thing will Richie RIch do with money since he does not care about it or how will Little Dot obsess over dots this month. The stories inside are not nearly as satisfying as the covers but the cover is what sold a comic back then and these were the best.

My New Favorite Book
Hoorah for the Octonauts. This new kids book is by the desing group Meomi and is a great one for kids and adults. Follow the intrepid Octonauts in their undersea adventures from the North Pole to the South Pole. So cute and fun to boot!
Ralphie the Tummy
Mr Toast has a new friend - Ralphie the Tummy. Tummies are made by the Hyper Bunny and sold on etsy. Each is one of a kind and hand knitted and each one has a special place to hold your stuff in their tummies...anything from candy to monkeys. Such fun.

Elephant Finger Puppet
I made this little guy when I was about 8 years old. He is just made of modeling clay but has firmed up quite a bit over the years. I am not sure how he has survived this long but I am glad he did. I find it pretty interesting that he does not look too much different from the characters I create today.

Little Golden Books
Another thing I am always on the look out for are nice vintage Little Golden Books. I don't remember having them as a kid but but as an adult artist, I find great inspiration in them. Mary Blair, JP MIller, RIchard Scarry. Gustaf Tenggren, Alice & Martin Provensen are just a few of the many talented illustrators that Golden Books employed through the years.
