General Mills & Cartoons

In the 1960's and early 70's, General Mills sponsered a bunch of cartoons including King Leonardo, Tennessee Tuxedo & the Go Go Gophers, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Underdog, Hoppity Hooper and the Space Kidettes. While it would have been amazing to see a giant image of Bullwinkle on the front of Cheerios, he still made some great appearances on the backs of those boxes. So here is a gallery of some of those classic box back appearances.

The Superhero Cereal That Never Was

A couple years ago, I was lucky enough to get a collection of concept artwork that included a lot of stuff done for Post cereal. I have posted some of this stuff before, but todays post is about a cereal that was never produced, Fantasic Frosties. In the mid 1960's, just as Marvel superheros like Spiderman were energizing the imaginations of kids, these concepts drawings were done. In the files with the art were some pages torn out of comics with poses circled. It is too bad the cereal was never made, it would have been pretty amazing.

Welcome to Disneyland

When I started my blog one of the areas I wanted to cover was early Disneyland. I have been a big fan of Disneyland since I was a kid growing up in Costa Mesa, CA. As an adult I had become a collector of souvenirs and vintage photos and from time to time I share some my stuff on the blog. Well last December, uber Disneyland collector Patrick started Stuff from the Park, a photo blog of vintage Disneyland shots. In a little over 6 months, he has posted almost 200 incredible vintage shots with more coming everyday.

Well Patrick's pioneering effort had brought on two more Disneyland photoblog. Each of these blogs brings even more in the way of vintage Disneyland views. Check them out and enjoy a few more shots from my collection.

1960's Chips Ahoy bag

As a collector there are many things I wonder if I will ever see. This Chips Ahoy bag was one of those things. I remember this style bag from when I was a kid but I think the Cookie Man comic strip on the backs were from a little before my time. This one is probably from about 1967 and it is pretty beat up. But since it is the only one I have ever seen, I am happy to have it.

Halloween Cards with Masks

I bought a group of Halloween cards from the 60's off of ebay a few months ago. When they came in, I found that 3 had foldout interiors which could be used as masks. Very inventive, colorful and neat.
